Green in and around the city: case study of the municipality of Dronten

The Province of Flevoland and the municipality of Dronten are working with Tygron on a digital twin that shows how green in and around the city contributes to a healthy living environment and the preservation of biodiversity. The Digital Twin must also be able to show what the possibilities for improvement are. And by calculating different scenarios for housing plans and green structures, these are tested against the policy.

In the case, various indicators are applied, such as those for the 3-30-300 rule: a rule of thumb for visibility of trees, percentage of canopy cover and proximity to parks as formulated by Cecil Konijnendijk (see also Demo 3-30-300 Project)

Interoperability is an important prerequisite for making digital twins work in practice. That is why this project is based on the reference architecture as developed in the context of DMI (the consortium working on an ecosystem of digital twins). Another prerequisite that John Joosten, the project leader of this trajectory, mentions is that the organization is able and willing to adapt its working methods to work with the new technology. For this, it is very important to work from the wishes of the organization, including with the help of user stories.

“You cannot innovate technically and continue to work the same” (John Joosten, province of Flevoland)
